🙂 GOOD DAY:
Source Energy Services has acquired RWR Trucking’s sand-hauling assets, including 27 tractors, 52 trailers and the associated staff. The buyout expands Source’s last-mile operations - it provides support for bulk oil and gas well materials, including mining and processing its own frac sand in Wisconsin.
🙁 BAD DAY:
Minnesota state fire marshals are investigating the cause of a fire that destroyed eight semis and burned a workshop to the ground last Tuesday. The blaze at Huls Bros Trucking began in one of the vehicles. The rural location of the fire required fire crews to haul 61,000 gallons of water to douse the flames. No injuries were reported.
Trucker guilty of arson spree against former employer
A Detroit trucker has been found guilty of repeat arson, after data from his telematics device placed him at a string of trailer fires targeted at Swift Transportation.
Viorel Pricop was convicted of six counts of arson against his former employer, having set fire to at least 24 trailers across eight states. The attacks were a retaliation to being convicted of transporting stolen cargo in 2015."
Trucking companies file lawsuit against Memphis towing scam
Three trucking companies have filed a $5M joint lawsuit against towing and parking companies in Memphis, Tenn., accusing them of racketeering and preying on drivers.
The 56-page filing alleges the defendants used deliberately unclear signage to lure truckers into parking areas, where the vehicle would have a boot fitted or be towed away. Drivers were then threatened and harassed into paying thousands of dollars to release vehicles - with some calling local law enforcement to intervene.
Ford Pro targets SME fleet market with integrated solutions
Ford’s commercial vehicle unit is targeting a growing share of the fleet management market, by bundling its vans and trucks with software and services designed for small to medium fleets.
Company CEO, Jim Farley, says these solutions could account for 20% of Ford Pro’s pre-tax profit - or $1.8bn - within two years. Experts add that small and medium fleets are an untapped market, with giants such as Geotab and Verizon tending to target larger operations.
